Day 26: Words of Wisdom for Newbies

"If you are working on something
exciting that you really care about,
you don't have to be pushed.
The vision pulls you."
- Steve Jobs

I became a blogger almost 6 years ago. I didn't have a clue what I was doing or what to write about. I didn't know how important social media was, or the significance of hashtags. I thought twitter was just a way to get your fave celebs to notice you. I thought facebook was just a way to tell a bunch of random people what my mum was cooking for tea. Man was I wrong! I was completely clueless. I'm not going to tell you what you should and shouldn't do. I'm just going to give you a few words of advice that I wish I had received.

You know that little person inside your head that's asking questions like "Should you really post that?" "Are your readers going to care about that?" - don't listen to it! You write what you want to write. Regardless of what anybody else says. If you want to write about last night's episode of Emmerdale - do it. If you want to write something controversial - do it. If you want to write something personal - do it. If you want to swear - fucking do it!

Your blog is your safe place to write about anything you want. Don't be afraid to be you. Great bloggers put their personalities into every post, it's not all about perfect technique.

"If you stay true to yourself and
true to your vision and your own
values, you can power through and
make an impact on modern life"
- Stephen Bannon

Don't feel obligated to post regularly. Especially if you've got writers block. It's okay to take a break. We all take them. If you don't step back then you'll lose your passion. If you don't want to take a break but you have writers block then have a little look at my post over on Life of Amy.

It's okay to ask bloggers for help. We don't bite. The blogging community is pretty damn amazing.

Be yourself and you'll be unstoppable!

All my love

  1. I love the idea of the 30 day challenge.
Also, great tips/words of wisdom on here. I wrote on my original blog from 2013-17, and in September last year decided to start a new one. It's been hard getting readership and follows etc, but I feel like it's slowly starting to come together. I forgot how hard it was to be a newbie!

    1. I did the exact same thing. I loved starting a fresh but completely forgot the stress of being a newbie.

Thank you for reading and commenting.
