Love Yourself: A 5 Step Guide To Happiness

Have you ever just wanted to walk about from all the stresses in your life?

It's easy to get caught up in today's society and suffer from stress and fatigue. There's no end to bad news delivered straight to our finger tips with devices such as phones and tablets, not to mention the overwhelming need to succeed and 'fit in'.

Don't worry, I'm not going to suggest getting rid of technology. Nor am I going to guarantee success. However, this easy 5 step guide to happiness will help you press pause on the daily struggles and remember your end goal.

1. Go For A Walk

This is simple. It doesn't have to be a long walk. A quick 15 minutes around the block will do. Your aim is to get fresh air and reconnect with nature. You could walk to a quiet bench and sit listening to the birds chirping, or even park further away from your destination and walk the rest of the way. Anything to get the fresh air in your lungs and your blood pumping.

This is a great way to empty your mind. Don't think about anything in particular. Just enjoy the outdoors. Not only will you benefit mentally but also emotionally and physically.

2. Listen to music

Now I don't mean depressing music that reminds you of the time your hamster died when you were 5. Make a playlist of feel good tunes and hit that play button when you're feeling a little down. This is a great way for lifting spirits and getting you back on track. You could listen to this whilst you're walking to free your mind of any negative thoughts of worries of yesterday, or even turn it up in the car on the way to work. Either way it's a sure fire way to get you in the right mood.

3. Make Lists and Plan

I love making lists AND they can truly help. Ever felt completely overwhelmed by the tasks you're facing for the day? Write a list and plan it all out. Give yourself a set time for each one and stick to it. Maybe it's housework, school work, admin or odd jobs around the garden. Giving yourself this timetable will structure your day and take away the stress. Don't forget to factor in breaks and time to rest.

4. Eat & Drink Better

No fad diets here! I'm not suggesting changing your entire eating habits. Simply upping your water intake and eating smaller meals more frequently can have a really positive effect on your body and mental wellbeing. I'm often guilty of forgetting to drink enough water, and then wonder why I'm feeling so sluggish throughout the day. It's recommended that you drink 6-8 glasses of water per day.

5. Forgiveness

You're only human. It's so easy to feel negative towards ourselves. We hate the way we look. We could be better parents. We haven't finished the ironing. But in reality, we're trying our best. Let go of the guilt and remind yourself that you're doing ok. You're working on creating a more positive you and that's so important. You can do it and you are worth it!

I hope this simple 5 step guide will help you to lose the daily stress and focus on happiness. It's not a quick fix, but implementing these into your daily routine will increase your mental wellbeing overall and help you feel less weight upon your shoulders.

Until next time,
