WOMEN'S WEDNESDAY | ignite the fire, inspire and empower

As you may have seen in yesterday's Tuesday Talk post, I have decided to pursue my dream, not letting anything stop me, and be the woman I know I am. On that post I shared quotes that have inspired me to take control of my future, well today I will be sharing quotes, pictures and gifs that have inspired me to transform into the Badass Feminist I am today. And I hope it ignites some feminist fire in you too.

The UK suffragettes fighting for women's right to vote in 1918.

"I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism
is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express
sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat, or a prostitute."
- REBECCA WEST

"My idea of feminism is self-determination, and it's very open-ended:
every woman has the right to become herself, and do whatever
she needs to do."
- ANI DIFRANCO

"I'm a feminist. I've been a female for a long time now. It'd be
stupid not to be on my own side."
- MAYA ANGELOU

"It is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two
sets of opposing ideals. We should stop defining each other by
what we are not and start defining ourselves by who we are."
- EMMA WATSON

"I'd like every man who doesn't call himself a feminist to explain
to the woman in his life why he doesn't believe in equality for women."
- LOUISE BREALY

"No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of it's
women and deprives itself of the contributions of half it's citizens."
- MICHELLE OBAMA

"Women are leaders everywhere you look - from the CEO who runs
a Fortune 500 company to the housewife who raises her children and
heads her household. Our country was built by strong women,
and we will continue to break down walls and defy stereotypes."
- NANCY PELOSI

"We cannot expect in the immediate future that all women
who seek it will achieve full equality of opportunity.
But if women are to start moving towards that goal, we must
believe in ourselves or no one else will believe in us; we must
match our aspirations with the competence, courage and
determination to succeed."
- ROSALYN YALOW

"There is no female mind. The brain is not an organ
of sex. Might as well speak of a female liver."
- CHARLOTTE PERKINS GILMAN

"The best protection any woman can have... is courage."
- ELIZABETH CADY STANTON

"Women are still treated as secondary issues. It is still far
too easy and accepted for leaders to ignore uncomfortable
truths... Women, we know, are the first to be affected by war,
and the last to be taken into account when it ends."
- ANGELINA JOLIE

"For I conclude that the enemy is not lipstick, but guilt itself;
we deserve lipstick, if we want it, AND free speech; we deserve
to be sexual AND serious - or whatever we please. We are
entitled to wear cowboy boots to our own revolution."
- NAOMI WOLF

"Do you have a vagina? And do you want to be in charge of it?
If you said 'yes' to both, the congratulations - you're a feminist!"
- CAITLIN MORAN

"Value yourself for what the media doesn't - your intelligence,
your street smarts, your ability to play a kick-ass game of pool,
whatever. So long as it's not just valuing yourself for your ability
to look hot in a bikini and be available to men, it's an improvement."
- JESSICA VALENTI

"We all fight over what the label 'feminism' means, but for me it's
about empowerment. It's not about being more powerful than men
- it's about having equal rights with protection, support, justice.
It's about very basic things. It's not a badge like a fashion item."
- ANNIE LENNOX

"You don't have to be pretty. You don't owe prettiness to anyone.
Not your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers,
especially not to random men on the street. You don't owe it to
your mother, you don't owe it to civilization in general.
Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked 'female'."
- DIANA VREELAND

"Feminism has fought no wars. It has killed no opponents.
It has set up no concentration camps, starved no enemies,
practiced no cruelties. It's battles have been for education,
for the vote, for better working conditions, for safety in the
streets, for child care, for social welfare, for rape crisis centres,
women's refuges, reforms in the law. If someone says, 'Oh, I'm
not a feminist', I ask, 'Why? What's your problem?'"
- DALE SPENDER

"I'm tough, I'm ambitious, and I know exactly what I want.
If that makes me a bitch, okay."
- MADONNA

"Why do people say 'Grow some balls'? Balls are weak and
sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things
can take a pounding."
- BETTY WHITE

"It's not my responsibility to be beautiful. I'm not alive
for that purpose. My existence is not about how desirable
you find me."
- WARSAN SHIRE

"He - and if there is a God, I am convinced he is a he,
because no woman could or would fuck things up this badly."
- GEORGE CARLIN

"Equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be
striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it
to stand on this earth as men and women, and the mysogyny
that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition.
It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something
out of the soul of every man and woman who's confronted
with it. We need equality. Kinda now."
- JOSS WHEDON

"We need to reclaim the word 'feminism'. We need the word 'feminism'
back real bad. When statistics come in saying that only 29%
of American women would describe themselves as feminist - and
only 42% of British Women - I used to think, what do you think
feminism is ladies? What part of 'liberation for women' is not for you?
Is it freedom to vote? The right not to be owned by the man you marry?
The campaign for equal pay? 'Vogue' by Madonna? Jeans? Did
all that good shit get on your nerves? Or were you just drunk
at the time of the survey?"
- CAITLIN MORAN

"Do not live someone else's life and someone else's idea of
what womanhood is. Womanhood is you."
- VIOLA DAVIS

"All men should be feminists. If men care about women's rights,
the world will be a better place. We are better off when
women are empowered."
- JOHN LEGEND

Or you can live your life crossing them."

"I love to see a young girl go out and grab the

You've got to go out and kick ass."

"Don't ever hear in your head 'Who am I to say something?'.
You are a human being. You are a person. You can 100 percent
change the world. It's the little things that really count. Be brave."
- EMMA WATSON

"There is nothing gutsier to me than a person announcing that their
story is one that deserves to be told, especially if that person
is a woman. As hard as we have worked and as hard as we have
come, there are still so many forces conspiring to tell women that
our concerns are petty, our opinions aren't needed, that we
lack the gravitas necessary for our stories to matter."
- LENA DUNHAM

"I want men to take up this mantle [of gender equality].
So their daughters, sisters and mothers can be free from prejudice.
But also so that their sons have permission to be vulnerable and
human too-reclaim those parts of themselves they abandoned and
in so be a more true and complete version of themselves."
- EMMA WATSON

"I am a woman with thoughts and questions and shit to say.
I say if I'm beautiful. I say if I'm strong. You will not
determine my story - I will. I will speak and share and fuck
and love, and I will never apologise to the frightened millions
who resent that they never had it in them to do it.
I stand here and I am amazing, for you. Not because of you.
I am not who I sleep with. I am not my weight. I am not my mother.
I am myself."
- AMY SCHUMER
