WOMEN'S WEDNESDAY | Interview with... Chantelle

This week I'll be interviewing another incredible woman who has had a hugely positive impact on my life and who I love more than she will ever know - my beautiful friend Chantelle.

WHO HAS HAD THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?

My dad. He's always been there for me and is possibly the greatest human to have ever existed. He continues to support me in every and any decision that I make. And my mum's incredible hard working effort (that woman could pull a 60 hour week and still ask me about my day) makes me strive to be hard working too.

WHAT ACHIEVEMENT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

Getting through two very terrible relationships and still standing with a smile on my face. I'm also proud of the loving support network I've somehow been lucky enough to gather around me, I have my boyfriend who is the love of my life, I have a fab family and I have Erik and Leah; the two most incredible best friends a girl could ask for.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT BEING A FEMALE?

The best... Shania Twain is stuck in my head so I'll have to get back to you on that one. The worst, I'm not going to lie, is the hormones. Sometimes someone will say something nice to somebody else, that has absolutely nothing to do with me, and I'll get all choked up.

WHAT FICTIONAL CHARACTER ARE YOU MOST SIMILAR TO? AND WHY? (film/tv/book)

Lady Patience from Robin Hobbs Assassin's apprentice series. She's a very cluttered woman who loves animals. She has so many hobbies but doesn't know what to do with them all - like me.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?

I'm very passionate about wanting my little sister to grow up to be a happy and strong woman. And my endless list of hobbies, although I'm particularly passionate about gardening and growing my own fruit and veg. I'm also becoming extremely passionate about reducing my plastic waste at the moment; saving the planet, avoiding one plastic bottle at a time.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST LESSON THAT LIFE HAS TAUGHT YOU?

That by keeping the ones you love close, you can face anything that life throws at you. It's easier to go with the flow when you're surrounded by people who can make you smile no matter what happens.

WHAT TWO THINGS DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF? (1 personality & 1 appearance)

Appearance wise, I love being a red head, but mostly I love my eyes. I often get told that I have big beautiful brown eyes, and I'm inclined to agree; they're the colour of the best hot chocolate you could ever have - what's not to love?
Personality wise, I love my sense of humour. Not only do I make people I love laugh, which makes me feel amazing, I also crack myself up too. It's like they say - if you can't make yourself laugh, who can.

WHAT'S SOMETHING WEIRD THAT YOU RECOMMEND EVERYONE TRYING AT LEAST ONCE?

I recommend everyone (if you live in a good neighbourhood) to go on a walk ridiculously late at night in the summer time. It's the most beautiful experience; walking alone under moonlight with nothing but the light breeze through the trees and the occasional car for company. I don't know if that classifies as weird but midnight walks are the best.

WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?

My dream was to be a farmer and to own my own farm; I used to sit and plan it all out. But I told people in primary school that I wanted to be a vet - it was close enough and didn't make me sound weird.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE ANYONE HAS EVER GIVEN YOU?

Fuck everything around you. Focus on what you need and what you want and everything else will follow naturally.

IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I wouldn't change a thing. Everything that has happened to me has lead to the fabulous life I lead now. I'd be far too scared of a butterfly effect fucking something up for me along the line.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT GUYS SHOULD UNDERSTAND ABOUT WOMEN?

Guys should understand that we're all very different; varying in the most wacky and beautiful ways. But despite our differences, we always deserve to be treated with respect.

TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR BEST FRIEND(s).

Oh man, you could dedicate an entire blog post to my two guardian angels. Erik has been my best friend for 10 years now. We instantly bonded after sitting next to each other and he introduced himself by saying "you know I can tell you the entire plot of the Dark Knight backwards.", he's absolutely hilarious (don't tell him I said that, his ego is big enough) and he honestly makes my life a million times better just existing. Leah is the absolute light of my life, she legitimately makes life worth living. She is one of the most beautiful souls, on the inside and out, that I have had the good enough fortune to be able to call her my best friend. We have been through so much together, she fits into my household like another member of the family which is a special bong that I cherish. She is just an amazing woman (though she'd tell you she's a trash bag) with some of the most beautifully creative writing that I've ever read. I love both of these amazing people and would never hesitate to trust them with my life.

IF YOU COULD MAKE A 30 SECOND SPEECH TO THE ENTIRE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

It would hit me how many people would be listening and I'd probably pass out from stage fright.

WHEN DO YOU FEEL MOST LIKE YOURSELF?

Either when I'm out in my garden just as all the little signs of life are creeping back, or when I'm watching tv in my house with Leah or in our local coffee shop with Leah and Erik, or of course at my boyfriends side.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE?

"To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." - Audrey Hepburn

WHAT DO YOU THINK IT MEANS TO BE A POWERFUL WOMAN IN 2018?

To be able to truly follow your passion, increasing the wellbeing of your life - like what you're doing pursuing becoming a blogger.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON FEMINISM?

It's definitely needed. There are so many women out there suffering every day who have yet to feel the benefits of it. But I'm much more passionate about environmentalism, I feel so passionate about making sure there's still a planet for us to be treated equally upon.

WHAT IS  YOUR OPINION ON BODY SHAMING?

It's disgusting. People should have enough to do in their lives and should focus on making others smile rather than trying to make other people feel uncomfortable in their own skin.

YOU'RE A SUPERHERO. WHAT WOULD YOUR NAME BE AND WHAT IS YOUR POWER?

I'd totally go all poison ivy with the ability to encourage plant growth. And my name would be The Unbelievable Flying Vampire... I wouldn't want people knowing my actual powers, where would the mystery be?

. . .

I love this woman SO MUCH!

She will be reading this right now, laughing all over again at 'The Unbelievable Flying Vampire'.
