WOMEN'S WEDNESDAY | Interview with... Leah

Happy Wednesday beautiful ladies! Today's post is dedicated to my incredible best friend, Leah. A woman who has had the most unbelievable impact on my life, a woman who I couldn't live with out. My love for her can never be reciprocated. I know you'll love her as much as I do.

WHO HAS HAD THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?

My brother. We've always been super close since we were kids and we have a lot of stupid inside jokes. He always cheers me up.

WHAT ACHIEVEMENT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

Getting into University. I've wanted to go since I knew I wanted to be a writer (which is since I was small). I failed too so I worked my butt off to get there and cried when I opened the acceptance letter to Edge Hill.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT BEING A FEMALE?

This is such a hard question. Hmm. I'd say the best is being able to have so many strong women, both fictional and real, to look up to and relate to. The worst is definitely period pains. Every month is like being stabbed in the womb as a punishment for not conceiving a child.

WHAT FICTIONAL CHARACTER ARE YOU MOST SIMILAR TO? AND WHY? (film/book/tv)

My mum calls me the Rory Gilmore to her Lorelai. But I'm also probably the weird love child of Jess Day from New Girl and Elliot Reid from Scrubs.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?

Fiction. I've always loved writing since I was a kid and tend to binge watch tv shows or binge read through books and become unhealthily obsessed with the characters.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST LESSON THAT LIFE HAS TAUGHT YOU?

Not to be so naive. You can't trust everyone and sometimes it's easier to have a wall and keep things to yourself.

WHAT TWO THINGS DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF? (1 personality & 1 appearance)

My disgusting positivity for everything even in tough or dark times. And the things that these two boys used to make me hate about myself. I'm proud of my curly hair and small boobs.

WHAT'S SOMETHING WEIRD THAT YOU RECOMMEND EVERYONE TRYING AT LEAST ONCE?

Dance through the street in the rain. Sometimes you've just got to hit "fuck it" and try something crazy that you've always wanted to try but been too scared to.

WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?

A mermaid, but then I realised they don't exist so I decided to be a writer and write about mermaids instead.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE ANYONE HAS EVER GIVEN YOU?

My tutor Andrew once told me "Never apologise for getting pissed. It builds character." Thanks Andrew.

IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Don't learn to hate yourself to try win the love of people who are never going to care about you. True friends love your flaws. Be yourself unapologetically.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT GUYS SHOULD UNDERSTAND ABOUT WOMEN?

That both men and women are equal. As long as you treat someone as a person and not a toy or something to accomplish then everything is fine.

TELL ME A BIT ABOUT YOUR BEST FRIEND(S).

Chantelle is my everything. It's like having another sister. Someone who's grown up with you and knows everything about you and has been there to witness all your biggest and worst moments. I can't even express how much she's done for me. How much she's made me into a better person. Everything she does makes me proud because she's so humbly talented and the most motherly, funniest person I've ever met. Honestly she's a mother hen. I'm beyond lucky to be able to call her my best friend and I'd be truly lost without her.

Erik is the most generous person I know. He can never do enough for you. He's so funny and the cutest human being on the planet and everything he does is amazing. He's super talented and smart and I have no doubt he'll be doing big things with his life. I don't think I ever express to him just how big of an impact he has on my life but I love his silly ass to bits.

When I felt alone Katie suddenly dropped out of the sky like the freaking guardian angel I didn't even know I needed. She's been the easiest person to talk to right from the get go and has the power to cheer me up without even realising I need it. Her timing is always perfect. I find it so hard to trust people but she somehow punched her way through my 20 foot wall and I can tell her literally anything. I'm so glad she came into my life. Plus she has the cutest Yorkshire accent and laugh you'll ever hear. I usually hate talking on video or on the phone to people but FaceTiming her is the best thing ever.

And of course you. You're the Clary to my Simon and everything we've been through together just makes us stronger and closer. We're probably a lot more similar than we realise. Everything you've done, building this blog and getting out there, makes me so proud to be able to call you my friend. Love you incase I die.

[ I love you incase I die too]

IF YOU COULD MAKE A 30 SECOND SPEECH TO THE ENTIRE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Honestly it would just be me ranting about why Tesco only has sandwiches with mayo.

WHEN DO YOU FEEL MOST LIFE YOURSELF?

When I'm writing or even just dancing crazily, alone in my room.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE?

My close friend Erik printed this in a locket for my 21st birthday:

"Everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it and the imagination to improve. The worst enemy to creativity is self doubt." - Sylvia Plath

WHAT DO YOU THINK IT MEANS TO BE A POWERFUL WOMAN IN 2018?

This contradicts everything I usually am but, I'm so proud of how many women have spoken out recently about things so many people, including myself, have kept quiet about for years. The Me Too movement is especially inspiring.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON FEMINISM?

Humans piss me off so I usually care more about animals. But I don't really give feminism a second thought because it's such a basic part of my life and thoughts. Men and women are equal and yet they're not seen that way. It's a shame there are so many people who can't see how ridiculous that is.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON BODY SHAMING?

Only you are allowed to comment on your own body and with bullshit "trends" constantly changing it's just more proof that no assholes wrong opinion on your body is ever going to be valid. We're all going to be nothing but skeletons one day anyway so who cares?

YOU'RE A SUPERHERO. WHAT WOULD YOUR NAME BE AND WHAT IS YOUR POWER?

I don't know what my name would be but I'd want to time travel so I could go back in time and give Sylvia Plath lush products. That girl loved her baths. Either that or I'd steal my favourite actors answer to this question and tape record my dreams. That would be really cool to see them played out live, especially when you wake up from an awesome dream and immediately forget what it was about.

. . .

Isn't she just best fucking soul on the planet?! I honestly couldn't live life without her.

You can find Leah over on Twitter and Instagram.
