Bloggers Uncensored: with ai love music

Welcome to this weeks Bloggers Uncensored! This is my latest and favourite blog series that I've created. This series is an opportunity to read your favourite bloggers' honest and uncensored opinions on real life topics. This weeks blogger is Amy from ai love music.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm Amy who is an American living in the central part of Japan. I currently work as a preschool teacher/English teacher. I have been here for six and a half years now. I love music, food, studying, dancing, watching dramas, writing, and reading. I love snacks, food, languages, music, and TV shows from around the world.

Why do you write?

I write to gain confidence in writing. My dad and professors would tell me I was a bad writer when I was in high school and college. Also, I have a lot of things to write about. Right now, I want to spread my knowledge of music and artists to others and recommend them for others to listen and enjoy as "music is magic".

Why did you start blogging?

I received a big box of CDs from Japan ten years ago. Inside, there were artists or songs I never heard of before. And I thought, maybe I can write about these songs and artists so other people can listen to them and perhaps grow to love them.

What do you love about the blogging world/community?

I love the support. Everyone is so kind and supporting with each other.

What do you hate about the blogging world/community?

Everyone is on a different schedule. I live in Japan, and by the time I am going to bed, the blogging community is awake and chatting away on social media. I had to pull some late nights to connect to people, which I love to do. But, I usually work from the mornings, so I have to rely on naps during lunch (or the day before) or tea to help me get through the day.

In your opinion, who are the most underrated bloggers?

I would say the book, music, and pop culture bloggers. I see a lot of travel, lifestyle, and beauty blogs but I don't know a lot of book or music bloggers.

What are some hard truths you have learnt about life?

That life doesn't revolve around money. Some people here are working to live and only care about the money. But, I am the other way to live, I live to work. I am never going to be a millionaire, but at least I am happy with the people I have in my life.

What does freedom mean to you?

Freedom to me is being myself who isn't bound to rules or standards and can express freely.

What are your thoughts on mental health and how it's portrayed in today's society?

Not a lot of people talk about it or take concern in it significantly. But, I think people need to talk about it more. People need to reach out more and understand more about mental health.

Here in Japan, which is a country with a significant suicide rate, mental health is "hush hush" as people don't talk about their problems so openly. People don't talk about their personal lives here in Japan so openly as someone from the Western Hemisphere.

Also, a lot of people are working in companies and are the will of the company. So, if a company says work till 10pm, the worker will do that. A lot of companies here get away with abusing their employees and that can lead to suicide and deterioration in mental and physical health. When the issue is addressed, it is swept under the table, or the government takes a very long time to address the issue.

I also believe that seeing a medical professional that deals with mental health should be covered by insurance. I think there are still countries that make you pay out of the pocket for an appointment and the medicine. People should have access to those services.

What are your thoughts on feminism and how it's portrayed in today's society?

Feminism is also underrated and needs to be talked about more. Females around the world still don't have equal rights, even in my home country of the United States.

As a female, I can do many things, have the same stamina, the same desire to work as a male but I can't get the equal pay? That's not fair. We need to close the inequality in salary but also be more open-minded towards females. Just because I want to have a kid doesn't mean I want to quit my career. (In Japan, there is a mindset that once a female has a kid, she doesn't want to work anymore.)

Also, birth control is a big taboo in discussions as it is seen as a dangerous object. But, birth control can do much more than one thinks. As a sufferer of severe primary Dysmenorrhea (or period pain), if I didn't have birth control, I would continue to be in severe pain (they're not fun and limits my plans for the day) and might have developed secondary Dysmenorrhea, which is more painful and can cause health problems.

What are your thoughts on 'Love is Love' and how it's portrayed in today's society?

Love is Love; it is as simple as that. As a person who has friends who love all types of people, you are free to love whoever you want to love. No one can tell you who yo love or what you should do in life. You are you!

What advice would you give to someone who is fighting a mental illness?

There are people out there who can help you. But most importantly: You can do it, don't give up!

What advice would you give to someone who is being bullied or harassed?

Someone loves you. Even though you might feel like you aren't loved due to bullying or being harassed, you are loved. I have been bullied in my lifetime as I was the odd girl. But, I just ignored then and focused on friends and family who love me. I focused on the positivity than the negativity.

If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?

Negativity. There is too much in the world right now. And it's making everything in life toxic.

What else do you feel strongly about?

Be patient! In this age of everything at our fingertips instantly, take things slow and be patient. The solutions in your life will come, just sometimes not immediately. Enjoy life at a steady pace.

Let's end this with some fun 'This or That' questions:
