Bloggers Uncensored: with A Rose Tinted World

Welcome to this weeks Bloggers Uncensored! This is my latest and favourite blog series that I've created. This series is an opportunity to read your favourite bloggers' honest and uncensored opinions on real life topics. This weeks blogger is A Rose Tinted World.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm a 46 year old Mum from Leeds. My little girl, who figures heavily in my blog, is 2 and a half years old. I'm currently taking a career break, having been a dental surgeon for over 22 years, so that I can enjoy a few different aspects of my life. I recently took up sewing as a hobby.

Why do you write?

I do tend to get passionate over things, and decided that it would be nice to get those ideas and views out to the world. It's very cathartic being able to just write what you feel.

Why did you start blogging?

Blogging seemed the obvious answer. I wanted to help people to overcome the problems that a lot of us face.

What do you love about the blogging world/community?

The bloggers that I have come across so far have all been really accepting and inclusive. People just want to help, and if you reach out, they come up with some fabulous ideas. I have found some incredibly deep thinkers with great insights and lovely positive outlooks in life. It is nice to find such similar minded folks out there.

What do you hate about the blogging world/community?

It is horrible to say it, but I do feel a little marginalised from a lot of the bloggers due to my age. A lot of the community are in their 20s, and I am over twice their age. Some of their references are completely lost on me! However, it is more to with how I feel about myself rather than how they have been, all I have found is a lot of very kind and accepting people. Which is so lovely.

In your opinion, who are the most underrated bloggers?

Oh heck! There are some really lovely people out there who have great blogs, and I would hate to offend anyone by missing them out. However, I do have to mention the people that I have gained the most from. These people have been totally unselfish in their support and guidance, and that makes them absolute diamonds.

What are some hard truths you have learnt about life?

That hard work and talent are great, but sometimes it's not what you know but who you know.

That people can be quite selfish and cruel. I've actually come across some really horrible people, that have really given me a deep distrust.

However, I've also always found that the most horrible things in life often herald the start of some of the best things happening for you.

What does freedom mean to you?

To be able to live your life the way you want to.

What are your thoughts on mental health and how it's portrayed in today's society?

I am just sad that there seems to be an inadequate provision for mental health care as the NHS budgets struggle to cope.

Mental health is a massive issue in society today. We all know that 1 in 4 people will suffer with some issue during their lifetime, but modern life is not good at helping people with these mental health problems.

Social media and the internet can be such a positive influence, but can also be a really destructive place to be.

I have suffered from depression several times in life. The last time I needed real help was about 7 years ago after a long term relationship breakup. It took me over 6 months to get therapy. Drugs are all well and good, but the core reasons for your thoughts and feelings during depression need to be addressed.

I'm also not convinced that employers and work places are very kind to people with depression or other mental health problems. People just don't seem to care for others anymore.

What are your thoughts on feminism and how it's portrayed in today's society?

That's tough. I joined my profession knowing that it is a very good career choice for a woman, as there is a lot of scope to reduce hours and work part time.

However, I am very aware of the gender pay gap in most careers. It's not right, but it may never change.

What are your thoughts on 'Love is Love' and how it's portrayed in today's society?

Love is the purest and unselfish of all human emotions. I don't care about your race, your colour, your religion or your sexual orientation. If there is love between two people it really ceases to matter.

What advice would you give to someone who is fighting a mental illness?

Speak to somebody. Even if it is a call to the Samaritans. And do talk to your GP. These days they are very attuned to mental health. And they do really want to help.

What advice would you give to someone who is being bullied or harassed?

A bully is usually acting from a position of jealousy and weakness. They harass and bully you because they have deep insecurities about themselves. You are better than them, and they hate you for that. So the only way they can cope is to try and make you feel bad.

They are jealous of you. Pity them. Laugh at them. They think that they can beat you? Fools.

If you could rid the world of one thing, what would it be?

War. I do think that we would all be better off as a United Earth. We all share this planet.

(As an aside, I asked Andrew my OH what he thought. Without hesitation he said 'wasps'. He REALLY hates wasps!)

What else do you feel strongly about?

That Brexit is a really bad idea for the future of our country. And that we need to be fighting for our NHS.

Let's end this with some fun 'This or That' questions:

Love or money?

Love

Work hard or play hard?

Bets do both in my opinion.

Cups in the cupboard: right side up or upside down?

Upside down, obviously. Who wants to find a dead spider in their first cup of coffee of the day? Urgh! I can't be held responsible for that sort of thing.

Chocolate or sex?

Sex.

Plan everything or wing it?

I plan everything to the last detail usually. Though I'm sure I could wing it if I needed to.

Happiness or money?

Happiness every time. Money is great, but as the Beatles said, it really can't buy you love.
