How to have a Spring Clean of the Mind and Body

We all make declarations on January 1st to become the best possible version of ourselves, because we buy into this whole "new year, new me" dream, but the truth is - it's complete bullshit. On Jan 1st we're still in holiday mode; we have, what feels like, the mother of all hangovers, we're still making our way through all of the festive chocolates, and not to mention it's seriously cold! 100mph winds and an ice rink path isn't exactly the incentive that's going to make me get shit done.

But, it doesn't have to be New Years Day to make changes. There are 364 other days that you're allowed to change, grow and set goals. I personally think that Spring is the perfect time to become the better version of you. A 'Spring clean' isn't just giving your house a good clean, (although it definitely helps), your mind and body deserves a clean slate too.

I know we can't just vacuum our anxiety away, although how great would that be! But there are so many other changes and cleaning that can be done to bring peace, positivity and happiness to our lives. Let's just jump in...

Get Inspired!

On posts like this, I always like to start with some inspirational quotes to ignite that fire inside of you. By the end of this post I want you to feel inspired and empowered to make the important changes needed in order to build your confidence, and to unapologetically love who you are. But you need to meet me halfway here. Change is scary, especially if you're a creature of habit like me, but right now it's just you and me, so open yourself up and let me in.

"We cannot start over, but we can
begin now, and make a new ending."

"I'm going to make everything
around me beautiful -
that will be my life."

messy in the middle and

"Clutter is not just physical stuff.
It's old ideas, toxic relationships and
bad habits. Clutter is anything that
does not support your better self."
Eleanor Brown

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough and more.
It turns denial into acceptance,
chaos into order, confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast,
a house into a home, a stranger into a friend."
Melody Beattie

"Impossible is just an opinion."
Paulo Coelho

"Learn to be alone without being lonely.
Learn to admire your beauty without finding fault.
Learn to love yourself without the love of others."

you'll find it harder to stay
around people who don't."

Some of the most beautiful chapters in our

Your past doesn't."

of your energy, not on fighting the old,
but on building the new."

Visualise your future!
_________________

Feeling inspired? Good. To make the changes necessary for your life, you need to stay motivated and have something to strive towards, after all, you are what you manifest. So it's time to visualise what you want to work towards, whether that be your personal life, fitness or work, and create a vision board of some sort.

My top tip for creating a vision board is to set the mood before you begin. Get comfy in bed or at your desk, light some candles and stick on a playlist that get's your juices flowing. You need to be calm, positive and optimistic when it comes to creating a vision board, otherwise you won't truly challenge yourself in the goals you set.

Once the mood is set, it's time to think about what you want on your vision board. To help you get started, here are some ideas to consider, followed by a few questions to ask yourself...

Self care | Self love | Healthy habits to adopt | Physical health | Romance | Hobbies | Travel
Mental health | Environment | Creativity | Home | Finances | Friendships | Skills | Activism
Family | Volunteering | Projects | Adventures | Bucket list | Education | Career | Charity work

What do I love about myself?
|
What do I need more of in my life?
|
What makes me happy?
|
What can I do to take better care of myself?
|
What are my strengths?
|
What or who inspires me?
|
What do I want my legacy to be?

De-clutter your life!
_________________

Here comes the hard part...de-cluttering your life! If you're anything like me, then you'll find it difficult to part with things and people, but it's one of the most important steps in bettering you and your life. To do this step, you really need to keep focused on your vision board. If, for example, you have fitness goals on your vision board, start in the kitchen and throw away, or donate, anything that will disrupt achieving your goals.

When it comes to people in your life, it get's a bit tricky. It can be so hard to cut people from your life but if they're actively having a negative impact on your health, well-being, and your life then you need to let them go. You can't be the person you want to be and achieve what you want to achieve, if you have someone holding you back.

Be grateful!
_________________

Being grateful for the good things we have in our life will create a more positive environment for ourselves, which in turn will bring more happiness to our lives. Implementing gratitude to your daily life will reduce stress, improve your relationships and it will help you to see what you have instead of what you don't have. List, every day, what you're grateful for until gratitude becomes second nature to you. I promise you will have a more fulfilling life.
